Recenly aquired '51 Ford Custom

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

My wife, a friend and I recently purchased a 1951 Ford Custom.  It runs
quite nicely, but there is some restoring that needs to happen.

I am interested in any info in the Bay Area (esp. South Bay-Peninsula)
about where I can:
– Get the car rechromed
– Get the car repainted
– Get a windshield wiper moter
– Get a radio
– Get a left window (the original is cracked).

Please email any responses to:

Nibbler/Flange tool?

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Hello all,

A few days ago someone told me of a nibbler that
also made a flange at the same time.  He had heard
it but did not know much about it.  Does anyone out there
know of this tool and if so where and how much is it?

Thanks in advance,

    Erik

looking for '62 Texas plates

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Good afternoon,
I just recently found out that in Texas if you’ve got a car that’s 25 years
or older, and happen to find a set of license plates for your year of car
that are in good shape then you can use those instead of the ones that
the state hands out.  So now I’m desperately looking for a set of 1962 Texas
plates.  Can anybody help me?  It would look really cool on my
’62 VW Beetle with the stock ragtop sunroof.  Thanks in advance,

Girling Brakes leaking

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

  So what else in new,eh?
Seriously, does anyone have any advice for a wheel cylinder fitting
that refuses to stop leaking? It’s a bubble type flare going into an alu.
casting. The casting doesn’t appear to be cracked, but reflaring the
line, and even replacing the line hasn’t helped.
Lapping the flare into its drilling has been sugested. Has anyone had
any experience with this method, or care to offer anything helpful?

Re: California Old License Plates

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Your best betfor repainting is to first sand the plate to make
the surface as even as possible.  Hammer out any dents with a
rubber mallet before sanding.  Then spray paint the background
color on and let dry.  Then, with a rubber paint roller, apply
the paint to the raised areas.

I have seen some *beautful* results using this method, though I
have not tried it myself.

If you are so inclined, many people sandblast theplates first
and basivcally start over with the bare metal.  This, however,
can be a bit more work than many people (including myself)
would be willing to do and does require some special equipment.

license plates

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

I collect old and unusual license plates.  If you have any
extras sitting around that you no longer want, please e-mail me.

I also have hundreds of extras for sale or trade, including
many older matched pairs that may be able to be registered to
antique autos.  E-mail me with your wants.  I have mostly VA,
but also some MD, NY, SD,  OH, etc…

Thanks!

Italian cars mailing list?

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Hi all,

Is there a mailing list for Italian car enthusiasts? I have a friend with a
few Alfa Romeos who just got Internet mail access and is interested in
joining one, if such a thing exists.

Please reply via e-mail. Thanks in advance!
