Langhorne Speedway

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Greetings!

Anyone out there remember the Langhorne Speedway in
Langhorne, Pennsylvania? It got bulldozed in about
1972-73 (it’s a K-Mart now). It was across the street
from Reedman’s Auto Mall (world’s largest auto dealer),
which is still there and still huge.

I was just wondering if anyone still remembered it.
I was a wee lad (6-7) when it closed, but it was 1
block up the street from my house and we used to climb
the trees behind the course and watch races through the
wooden bleachers. When I was real young (2-3) I vaguely
remember the rmmmm-rmmmm of races while I took my naps
and went to bed in the summer.

I’d like to know about the races. Someone once told me
Langhorne was about on par with Daytona in the late
60′s.

Anyone know if they still race at Atco, NJ? I’ve been
to a few races there, but it was in the late 70′s.

Thanks,

Brendan Perry

1 9 5 7 Chevrolet

First, I’d like to apologize to those who answered my first post under CXOQF.
That was a temp account that got deleted and I lost the email address of those
’55 – ’57 chev enthusiasts who responded (i.e. I wasn’t notified before CXOQF
died).  Thanks for all the tips on the chrome.

As for the car, it was originally bought in 1957 by the woman’s mother.  She
was given the car in 1973.  It has 69,700 miles on it because it never left
El Paso (until I bought it).  It’s major problems are faded paint, cracked
glass, minor rust and the normal exposure type problems.  It has all items that
it came from the factory with less paperwork and hubcaps (someone decided they
needed them more than this 75 year old woman.  I drive any time I like as it
is extremely mechanically sound.

My problem is my job is most likely sending me to europe for a few years and I
face the age old question of classic car buffs – do I sell or store?  This car
is in very unique condition which complicates the issue.  Any opinions or tips
on storage?

Warning SuperClean

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Just a quick tip.  When using Super Clean on blue engine paint, be prepared
for a bad suprise.  It fades it almost immediately to a soft green.  I been
there and didn’t even get a T-shirt for it…  :’<  It doesn’t fade the orange
paint though.  Tip for the day, test a small area first or you may end up with
a strange colored engine.                       – Brian

p.s.  It doesn’t matter if the paint is old or new.

67Camaro.Gif (0/4) a 1967 Camaro

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

My wifes mother has stopped driving, and so she wanted
us to look after her little car.  It was her Birthday
present in 1967!

This shot shows the poor little car geting washed off
after the trip across Canada by truck.  It amases me that
the car has only had 2000 miles (yes canadian fans MILES)
in the last 5 years.  A mechanic fried said that it looks
almost brand new!

The car spent all it’s life in B.C. until now (except
for the first year in Calgary)

Replacement Radiator Hoses

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

I just returned from visiting two local suppliers
dealing in early Ford pick-ups parts, specifically
looking for radiator hoses.  Both suppliers said
they are having trouble getting original style hoses
from their wholesalers.  In addition, it appears plain
wide fan belts are also on the way out.  The new ones
from Gates are the "tractor tread" type.

Has anyone in netland had similar problems? If not please
let me know where you’re getting parts.

Oldsmobile engine size question

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

A few years ago, a friend of mine bought a late 60′s Olds Delta Royale
convertible.  It had some kind a V8, I think a 400-something engine.  Does
anyone out there have any idea what size this engine was?  I’m not real
familiar with Oldsmobiles of that or any era (the friend and car are gone
now).

For what it’s worth, gas guzzling and all, that was one fun car…

MGB parts source

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Just picked up a straight ’75 B (citron) and will need seats, carpeting,
top and weather stripping.  Any recommendations on the best supply sources?
We plan to be as authentic as limited finances will allow.  The car is for
street use in 13 months when daughter is old enough for a license.

We have a good, inexpensive craftsman in Lynchburg, VA, for the upholstery,
carpeting and top work.  Just need the materials to bring him.

Appreciate the help.
