'69 Camaro Rocker Panel Replacement

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Hi to one and all,
I am considering purchasing a 1969 Camaro Sport Coupe that has rusted-out
rocker panels on both sides of the car.  Will it be difficult to replace
them?  Most of the rest of the car is in good shape, just needs to be
repainted.
I am not going to turn this into a show car (already have one), this one
is going to be a cruiser so it just has to look good.
Any and all help is appreciated!

rust inside doors

Monday, September 28th, 2009

While repairing the driver’s side window on a ’69 mustang
I noticed some rust on the inside of the door, what’s the
best way to clean and, especially cover, the rusty area.
Note that appearance of the refinished area is completely
unimportant, since the area is hidden from view.

Email please.

Carpet Padding (replacement)

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Does anyone know the name of the padding used in cars of the ’60′s and
’70′s that looks like a chopped pressed felt?  I’m in need of replacement
for my project car.

FOR SALE: 68 Rambler with 37K original miles!

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Hi, there,

I owned a classic 68 Rambler American with V6 engine.  The car is in good
condition with only 37,000 original miles on it.  I bought the car last
August.  I had a mechanics check out the car, who agreed that the car
is indeed under that mileage.  The car is still with original parts
except  its muffler, brake, battery, solenoids and starter were
changed half a year ago.  The windshield has some crack, however, it
does not bother driving.  According to my experience, the engine is very
powerful and it can easily accelerate on steep hill.   The car is in
excellent driving condition until last Saturday when its transmission
seems like developing some problem.  It has some difficulty in switching
from 1st gear to 2nd gear but it has no problem runing at higher gear
which means driving over 30 miles a hour.  Since I do not know a whole
lot about cars, I would like to sell this car.  I’d like to  ask $400
for it but I am also willing to accept a best offer.  Please email if you
are interested.

1950 Buick Super

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Well, looks like I am going to need some cash this summer, so I
think the Dynaflow has gotta go. How does one establish a fair
market price on this vehicle? It is an obscure model, yet it is
in cherry shape with original paint, interior, and only 20k
original miles. Do you list it in the local paper or Hemmings?
Inquiring minds would like to know.

                        Thanks,

Re: Subaru Brat Trivia

Monday, September 28th, 2009

>Remember the Subaru Brat mini-truck that was the size of a
>little sedan and appeared to have the hatchback cut off? Remember
>how it came with "fun seats for outdoor riding"?  No? It had a pair
>of hard plastic seats mounted in the bed, out in the wind- perhaps
>good in Florida where it is warm but pretty damn dorky up here in
>the rainy, cold, Pacific Northwest.

"Fun seats for outdoor riding?"  HAH!  My brother-in-law had one
of those miserable torture devices.  About ten years ago, three of us
went to the shore in that detestable rollerskate from hell.  Us two
passengers drew lots to see who would ride in the "fun seats" for the
300+ mile trip, and yours truly got to sit in the breezy seat on the
way down, next to the camping gear.

If you like rollercoasters, you’d love the jumpseats of a Subaru
Brat.  Even at fairly low speeds, you find yourself clutching the
grab handles with a white-knuckled grip to keep from rolling out of
the bed — which doesn’t even come up to a tall man’s shoulders.
At high speeds — which, given the way my brother-in-law interprets
the 55-mph speed limit is around 80 — it’s like riding a bullet,
backwards.

Since the roofline is quite low and the bed is shallow, the
wind roars straight back across the roof and tries to blow your head
into your lap.  Forget about wearing a hat; in fact, a motorcycle
crash helmet would be a very soothing idea — I wished for one many
times during that ride.

Of course, in order to keep you distracted from annoyances like
the butt-killing ride and park-bench seat cushioning, there is always
the amusement of watching the unbelieving guffaws of the following
drivers as they yuk it up over the sight of someone as foolish as
yourself actually >riding< in such a contraption.  Do >not< give
in to the temptation to give them the finger, for releasing your
death-grip on the grab handles will leave you spread over their
windshield like a june bug if the Brat hits a tar strip on the
Interstate!

And that’s in >dry< weather.  The rain was another story
altogether…
